1. How It Works
Bifenthrin is an insecticide that was created to act like compounds found in chrysanthemum flowers. It’s been in use since the 1980s to combat a wide variety of pests, including ants, cockroaches, ticks, termites, as well as mites and bagworms. Bifenthrin targets the nervous system of these insects, leading to paralysis, but is safer for humans and pets.
2. Usage
Bifenthrin can be used both indoors and outdoors, and it provides up to three months of protection in indoor settings. Do not use on edible plants. Spray in areas where you’ve noticed pests.
Although Bifenthrin is very effective at controlling pests, it’s important to use it responsibly. It can harm aquatic life, so care should be taken to keep it away from bodies of water. It’s also harmful to pollinators like bees, so avoid spraying it on flowering plants or in areas where bees are active.
Apply Bifenthrin only in the necessary areas, and preferably during the cooler times of the day like morning or evening. It works best as a preventative but can aid as a contact spray.
3. Targeting Specific Pests
For pests such as mites and bagworms, it’s recommended to spray Bifenthrin in June when these pests are smaller/immature and easier to control. For mosquitoes and other pests, you can apply it to outdoor plants like trees and shrubs. Always follow the product’s label instructions.
